Tuition discounts
Cadence supports applying a discount to a member’s tuition - either as a percentage off, or a fixed dollar amount off. This is useful for things like VIP pricing, concession rates, or assistance arrangements.
Setting a discount on an enrolment
Section titled “Setting a discount on an enrolment”To set a discount, open the relevant activity enrolment and choose one of:
- Percentage - a whole percentage (0-100%) off the tuition for that period.
- Fixed amount - a set dollar amount off the tuition.
Either way, the discount will never reduce what the family owes below $0.
You can also add an optional note to record the reason for the discount. This is for reference only and doesn’t affect anything.
How discounts appear on the ledger
Section titled “How discounts appear on the ledger”When tuition is posted for a billing period, the ledger entry shows:
- The original (full) amount before any discount was applied.
- The amount owing after the discount - this is what the family is actually charged.
- A record of the discount that was applied, so staff can see how the charge was calculated.
Staff with the appropriate permissions can adjust the discount on an already-posted tuition charge via the family ledger.
Full discounts (member owes $0)
Section titled “Full discounts (member owes $0)”If a discount covers the entire tuition amount, the charge is still recorded on the ledger - but with an amount owing of $0. The original amount is still shown.
This means you can tell the difference between a member who was charged and had their full tuition covered, versus a member who was never charged at all.
