Permissions troubleshooting

A staff member cannot open a screen or setting

Section titled “A staff member cannot open a screen or setting”

Cadence hides menu items and pages when someone’s roles do not include the right permissions.

  1. Open the person’s profile in the Staff directory.
  2. Open the Access tab and check which roles are assigned.
  3. Open Settings → Organisation → Roles and review what those roles allow - use search in the matrix if needed.
  4. Assign a role that includes the missing permission, or edit a custom role (duplicate a built-in one first if needed).

I duplicated a role but nothing changed for the person

Section titled “I duplicated a role but nothing changed for the person”

Duplicating creates a new role definition. It does not automatically replace roles already assigned to staff.

  1. Open the staff member’s Access tab.
  2. Tick the new custom role.
  3. Untick the old role if they should no longer have that access.

I removed a role but they can still do something

Section titled “I removed a role but they can still do something”

Check whether they have another role that still grants that permission. Permissions from all assigned roles add together.

I created a custom role but it does nothing

Section titled “I created a custom role but it does nothing”

A role with no permissions selected does not grant access. Open the role and tick the needed boxes in the matrix. Remember that View is required for staff to open most screens.
